for me, the fun part was killing stuff with guild mates or friends on vent. its all about playing with the right people. just guild hop until you find the right one, and convince a couple real life friends to buy the game

he is rite
but gw has one of the best rpg combat systems around its not bout tryin to grind to high levels its not bout tryin to find the best gear to pimp out ur character its not bout crafting, or fishing, or tryin to make a living its all bout the fighting strategically planning and skillfully executing to win of course it does have some of these "traditional" rpg elements to a degree but at its core gw is a competitive combat-based rpg |

Plus at the start the game might seem a bit dull and slow paced. Later on it might get more intense in some missions. Play a bit longer and see how you feel. |

There's a lot more to do
Yes, I agree with most of the above. GW is really a stragegy game IMHO. When I first started that's pretty much all I did is run around and kill things. Then I joined a helpful guild and the players showed me the many different levels of the game. I'm still learning too. Maybe GW is like an onion where there are many layers to uncover. Running around and killing things is just the first layer.

First of all guys, i want to clear some stuff up. Did i ever mention that he wasn't right about his opinion? I agree with him, you have to kill stuff. But it's about the way you do it. It feels great when you have made alot of preparations and when you're playing the whole team is in harmony, and stuff work out great. Not just go here kill that mob, go there kill that mob.

ps: to answer more in line with the topic some players find GW boring. I have a friend playing Lord of the Rings Online (aka "LOTRO") and GW, but another who will play any MMO but finds GW boring. My conclusion is 1. GW is a difficult game. MMO's are for newbies: mass buttons, collect loot, mash buttons, level up, rinse repeat until level 80. It's like everything is alreadty planned for you and you just run after the carrot. 2. GW on the other hand has no feel of a permanent world. But then, my friends who don't like GW, let's face it... they don't like it because they can't immerse themselves enough. In other words, the drug is not hard enough for them. At least that's my perspective. For me GW sometimes is too simplified. Those damned invisible walls everywhere. The scenery is so cool and you can't climb those stairs, can't jump, can't get closer to the huts and the trees etc. Even as it is, if the game provided more interaction with the environment it would be way more immersive. So it has that arcade feel at times. I used to hate that key icon in the dungeons, it looks like you're playing Mario Bros or something. But GW is so awesome in many other ways; I can live with it. I played GW for 2 years or so, I don't know exactly how long because I don't care. I own all the chapters/expansions. I had great fun with it for quite a long time, and I've done most everything there is to do. I haven't completed everything, but I've tried most of it.
Cartographer is not exploring, you do it once and that's it. Real exploring always has new things to search out. Say what you want, there is nothing to GW aside from killing. That satisfies some, doesn't satisfy others. It used to satisfy me, then I got bored of it, pretty much overnight. It's all the same to me, different monsters, skills, and tactics (to some extent), but it's all the same. What annoyed me the most is that I always had to fight to get where I wanted to go. Want to do Frostmaw? Damn, gotta fight my way there. Slavers? Damn, baddies on the way. Sorrows Furnace? More baddies between me and it. Yeah you can run to it, but you get the point. GW doesn't even have trading, unless you want to sit in a town and spam WTS or WTB all day long. They should have added some sort of marketplace a long time ago. A game that has the other stuff but doesn't require you to do them is a game I like. I've never played WoW or Runescape, and don't intend to, so I don't know, or care, if they fit that bill or not. |
